How Long Does It Take to Build a Pool in South Shore FL? A Complete Timeline

The Honest Answer
A custom inground pool in South Shore FL typically takes 3 to 6 months from contract signing to first swim, depending on project complexity, permit timelines, and weather. Here's how that breaks down phase by phase.
Phase 1: Design & Contract (2–4 Weeks)
Before anything touches the ground, we spend time understanding your vision. This phase includes a free in-home design consultation with Joey Sorrells, site evaluation, pool design development (layout, shape, features, finishes), 3D rendering (available upon request), and contract execution. Once signed, we move to permitting immediately.
Phase 2: Permitting (3–8 Weeks)
This is the most variable part of the timeline — largely outside our control. Hillsborough County and Manatee County require permits for all pool construction. Typical processing: 3–8 weeks. We submit complete, accurate permit packages to minimize back-and-forth. Some HOA approvals run concurrently.
Phase 3: Layout & Excavation (3–5 Days)
With permits in hand, we mobilize quickly. Our crew marks out the pool footprint, calls in underground utilities locates, and begins excavation. For a standard pool, excavation typically takes 1–2 days.
Phase 4: Steel Reinforcement & Plumbing Rough-In (3–5 Days)
Our crew installs the steel rebar framework and runs all plumbing lines — returns, suction, main drain, and feature plumbing — before inspection.
Phase 5: Gunite/Shotcrete Shell (1–2 Days + 10-Day Cure)
Pneumatically applied concrete forms the shell to your exact design. The shell cures for 7–10 days before the next phase. This is when the pool really starts to look real.
Phase 6: Tile, Coping & Decking (1–2 Weeks)
Our tile and coping crew sets the waterline tile, installs coping around the perimeter, and builds out the surrounding deck. This phase has a major impact on the overall aesthetic.
Phase 7: Equipment Installation (2–3 Days)
The pump, filter, heater, automation system, and water features are installed, plumbed, and connected to power by our licensed electricians.
Phase 8: Interior Finish (1–2 Days + Startup)
The PebbleTec or other interior finish is applied. The pool is then filled (24–48 hours) and the chemical startup process begins.
Phase 9: Final Inspection & Handover (1–2 Weeks)
County final inspection, then we train you on your pool's systems and hand over the keys. You swim. You enjoy. You never look back.
